This article notes that Staff training and development in the local government system in Nigeria is inadequate, training programs are at its lowest ebb, the Local Government Commission rarely organizes such training. The study further contends that local government system in Nigeria does not identify training needs of the staff and orientation and induction are not organized for newly recruited staff, the staff’s are not regularly sent on service training. The article suggested remolding the staff’s through in-service training and development, which will inform increased morale and high productivity, to the benefit of the Local Government System.
