The United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005 to 2014) seeks to integrate the principles, values and practices of Sustainable Development in all aspects of education and training in order to address the social, economic, cultural and environmental problems faced in the 21st century. This has led to transformation of Environmental Education to embody sustainability in the broadest sense and is now regarded as Environmental Education for Sustainability (EES).
