The purpose of this theoretical paper is to provide teachers teaching at all levels of the educational system in Ghana with necessary tools to enable them be proactive in managing their professional and personal levels of stress, thereby avoiding the possibility of occupational 'burn-out'. Teachers are also encouraged to use the knowledge, skills and strategies outlined in this paper to inform debate about whole school approaches to coping with institutional or organisational stressors and to pass on the basic management techniques to their students, parents and colleagues.
