The Issues Emanating From Land Use Planning (from An Engineering - Geological Context): Causes, Consequences, And Remedies - Evidence From Bayelsa State, Niger Delta, Nigeria
Land-use planning in Bayelsa State (Niger Delta, Nigeria) faces persistent problems that reduce the resilience and sustainability of urban development. This paper examines four hypothesized root causes from an engineering-geological perspective: (1) Ignorance among town planners of the importance of engineering-geological factors; (2) Poor communication and knowledge-transfer between earth scientists and planners; (3) Delays, gaps or fragmentation in quantifying and disseminating geological/geotechnical data; and (4) Institutional and technical inability to integrate geological information during plan implementation.
