The rapid urbanization and the economic downturns across Africa, specifically Ghana has resulted in growing poverty and inequalities, occasioning criminal activities as a means of survival. Yet recent research suggests that crimes are committed is a specific manner, with considered factors. Drawing from unstructured in-depth interviews with a purposively selected sample of 20 convicted criminals, the study found that criminals engaged mostly in economic crimes, selecting targets with higher pay-off or financial benefits with a minimal risk of apprehension.
