In the last four decades, there has been sustained scientific interest in contemporary environmental change in the Sahel (the southern edge of the Sahara). It suffered several devastating drought and famine conditions between 1970s and 1980s. Speculations about the climatology of the drought are still unresolved. Contrary to the assertion of widespread irreversible desertification, a recent increase in the pattern of greenness over large area of the Sahel has been observed. The aim of this study is to assess the trend of greening in the Sahel using geospatial techniques (North-Western Sokoto State of Nigeria) by investigating the existence of greening in the study area from 1986 – 2014, de
