Insecurity of water has become one of the most pressing challenges in development for cities in low and middle-income countries, particularly in the context of rapid urbanization. While there are global commitments to ensuring universally accessible, safe and affordable drinking water by 2030 under the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6, millions of urban residents, particularly those in informal settlements and who earn less, continue to have access to unsafe and unreliable drinking water services.
