Valuing Marine Security And Coastal Protection Of Akwa Ibom State Within The Framework Of The Nigerian Blue Economy
Akwa Ibom coastal areas suffer both insecurity and coastal threats. This study evaluates the willingness to pay for marine sucurity and coastal protection within the framework of the Nigerian blue economy. Some coastal communities with a direct connection to the Atlantic Ocean were selected from the five local government areas of the State, based on their direct and indirect influences by ocean activities. Questionnaire was administered using a purposive sampling technique. The first objective was to evaluate the natural coastal architectural structure of the State. The result indicated vegetation cover as a major natural coastal protection mechanism.
