Socio-cultural Factors Influencing Fosterhood Practices Of Ovcs In Nyamira County, Kenya
Orphaned and vulnerable children have steadily been on the rise in sub-Saharan Africa. Compared to other children, the psycho-social and socio-economic situations of OVCs are more likely to be multifaceted and worse in Kenya. This study sought to assess the socio-cultural factors influencing fosterhood practices of OVCs in Nyamira County. The study revealed that informal fostering was widely practised. There is need to provide community education on foster care of orphaned children to improve the quality of care provided to this children and to act as a safeguard to protect them from mistreatment and abuse and to ensure they attain their full potential to be useful future citizens.
