This article is explaining the role of panchayat concerning santal women’s land right in Balurghat block of Dakshin Dinajpur district of West Bengal, India. In this area santal women generally depend on land but they do not have control on land. In santal society women do not have right on landed property of father and husband. Moreover they do not get land in their name at the time of government land distribution programme. So women in this area to get their lawful share approach their local judicial bodies’ panchayat. Panchayat sometime provide right judgment and some time acts as a source of discriminator.
