This paper reviews the most recent literature on emerging megatrends with a focus on the role of governments in confronting the potential negative aspects of the megatrends. The paper highlights and discusses the major global megatrends, specifies the actions that governments of all countries must take in dealing with the potential impacts of the megatrends, details the response process, considers alternative scenarios based on a strategic foresight approach, and points to potential black swans that can derail the actions of governments.
