Prevalence, Virulence Determinants And Factors Associated With The Occurrence Of Enterobacter Spp In Water, Humans And Animals In Rural Communities In Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria
Enterobacter species have been described as opportunistic pathogens that cause significant infections in humans and animals worldwide. They are widely distributed in the environment, including water, humans and animals owing to their ubiquitous nature. The presence of various virulent Enterobacter spp predisposes infections in animals and humans. This study aimed to determine the prevalence, virulence determinants and factors associated with the occurrence of Enterobacter isolates in water, human and animal in rural communities in Akwa Ibom State. A cross-sectional study was conducted over a period of 12 months from July 2023 to June 2024 in 6 local government areas of the state.
