The primary purpose of learner assessment is to support learning. Learning is not possible without thoughtful use of quality assessment information by learners. For optimum learning to occur learners need to be involved in the classroom assessment process. The validity and reliability of classroom assessment is increased when learners are involved in collecting evidence of learning. Portfolio assessment is a purposeful, multidimensional process of collecting evidence that illustrates a learner’s accomplishments, efforts, and progress over time.
