The objective of this paper is to determine the relative influence of the factors affecting the choice of health services. The data for this study come from a primary survey of randomly selected 500 households in the urban setting of Chennai Metropolitan area of Tamil Nadu and 500 households in the neighbouring rural setting of Thiruvalluvar district of Tamil Nadu, India. The empirical models are estimated by OLS, Maximum Likelihood PROBIT and LOGIT techniques. Choice for a particular type of health service during illness is significantly influenced by education of both husband and wife.
