Revealed Comparative Advantage And Export Competitiveness: A Case Of Kenyan Tea Exports To The International, Russian, Egypt And Pakistan Markets
This paper analysed the revealed comparative advantage and competitiveness of Kenyan tea exports from 2001-2014 towards the international, Russian, Egyptian and Pakistani markets. To study Kenya’s competitiveness, two widely used indices are applied: The revealed comparative advantage (RCA) and comparative export performance (CEP) indices. The findings of the study indicate that Kenya has a strong comparative advantage in tea exports over to its main rivals in the international market. Kenya also has a relatively high comparative advantage in the Egyptian and Pakistani markets when compared against its major rivals.
