The study comparatively identified the causes and consequences of community – oil company conflicts in Rivers State, Nigeria. The sample size of the study was made up of 134 respondents who were randomly drawn from the communities and oil companies affected by this kind of conflict and the Rivers State Department of Community Affairs. Data were elicited with the administration of questionnaire and interview schedule. Frequency and percentage were used for data analysis. Results indicate that the major causes of this type of conflict from the point of view of the community were neglect of oil communities by oil companies (89.8%) and unemployment (65.2%).
