Ambient Ionizing Radiation Assessment And Its Public Health Implication At Radiology Department, University Of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Borno State Nigeria
A Radeye G 10 Gamma and X-radiation survey meter was used to assess the outdoor and indoor background ionizing radiation dose at various locations within and 20 meters radius outside the walls of the Radiology department of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Nigeria. Readings were taken three times in each location in microSievert per hour (µSv/hour) and the mean values were recorded. The values were converted to milliSievert per year (mSv/year). The results obtained in this study showed that the mean outdoor background radiation is 0.07 ± 0.001mSv/year, while the mean indoor background dose equivalent reading is 0.36 ± 0.001mSv/year. The mean indoor post exposure reading is 0 Download
