Bacteriological Studies Of Borehole Water In Aba Metropolis Abia State Nigeria: Recommendations For Improved Water Portability
After the Nigeria civil war in 1970, the supply of water is being controlled by the populace of Aba and not by the government with poor regulating and controlling agency. There is therefore a grave need to assess the bacteriological portability of water which is necessary in view of high cases of water borne and water related diseases. Sample water was collected from each of 135 boreholes and examined for the presence of bacteria organisms. The result showed that 12(8.9%) had contamination of E. coli, 9(13.6%) out of theses 12 samples were moderate contaminated while 3(4.5%) were heavy. Sixty nine (51.1%) of the 135 samples had other coliform organisms.
