Accuracy Of Clinical Diagnosis Of Malaria By Health Workers In A Rural Community In Abia State
Accuracy of clinical method of malaria diagnosis has been argued as a reliable method of diagnosis but in settings where there are no doctors and laboratory personnel to carry out definitive diagnosis by the use of laboratory facilities, it forms a life-saving basis to initiate treatment. This study aimed at assessing the accuracy of diagnosis of malaria using clinical method. This was a diagnostic clinical study conducted at Obehie Community from November 2013 to April 2014 to investigate the accuracy of clinical method of diagnosis of malaria using thick blood film. On thick film microscopy, accuracy of 98.9%, 99.3% and 99% was obtained from each of the health workers.
