Afis Fingerprints Quality Assessment Using Self-organizing Maps
The biometric method, Automated Fingerprints Identification System (AFIS), is widely used to manage fingerprints and identify people. The identification performance of an AFIS is very sensitive to the quality of the captured fingerprint image. In this paper, the researcher performs an assessment of the quality of fingerprints in AFIS using Self-Organizing Maps (SOM). Biometric data (thumb and index fingerprints of both hands) of hundred (100) subjects are used for the exercise. Results show that SOM can be used to perform assessment of the quality of fingerprints in AFIS.
