Socio-economic Determinants Of Market Participation By Smallholder Ricebean Farmers In Busia, Kakamega, Siaya And Migori Counties, Kenya
Kenya's agricultural production is characterized by growth of staple food such as maize and legumes which are grown primarily for self-consumption, with very little surplus remaining for the market. As a result, poor market participation for legumes manifests. Studies that have been conducted on leguminous crops have focused on other legumes such as beans and soybean but ignored ricebean crop. Ricebean crop has been considered as a neglected and underutilized crop despite its popularity amongst farmers due to its multipurpose nature. This study therefore seeks to evaluate the socio-economic determinants of market participation by smallholder ricebean farmers
