Hydroponic Screening Of Rice Seedlings For Salinity Tolerance
Rice is a major stable in sub-Saharan Africa, providing energy needed in diet. The crop is however sensitive to salt stress, especially during the juvenile stages. In other to increase crop yield and production in the face of increasing saline soils, there is the need to obtain materials which are tolerant to these conditions and their subsequent utilization in breeding programs. The objectives of this study were to (1) To evaluate and select salt tolerant germplasm, (2) Establish a core collection of salt tolerant lines Thirty-two (32) rice accessions including four (4) checks were screened for salinity tolerance. Pregerminated seeds were sown in Styrofoam hydroponic system. Salinity stre
