Characterisation Of Stump Bud Bank On Commercially Harvested Zambezi Teak ( Baikiaea Plurijuga) In The Kalahari Sands Of Zimbabwe
An assessment of the bud bank on commercially harvested stumps of teak in Gwayi in the Kalahari sands of Zimbabwe was carried out in April, 2015 in light of the vegetative regeneration of the species. The objectives of the study were 1) to determine if the number of buds on a stump are related to the diameter of the stump 2) to quantify the buds above and below ground and 3) to characterize the bud strategy of teak. Direct bud count under bark, above and below ground in 60 randomly selected stumps was done. A regression analysis using Minitab Version12.0 was used to assess the relationship between the number of buds on the stump and its diameter.
