Rainfall characteristics were evaluated in Makurdi in the Guinea Savanna agroclimatic belt of Nigeria.. The mean Annual rainfall was 1140mm.The highest rainfall amount per storm event was 71.7mm while the highest six- minute rainfall intensity was 240mmh-1. Advanced storms were dominant. Up to 68 percent of rainstorms fell at intensities exceeding 25mmh-1. Thus the rains were dominantly erosive (Hudson, 1981). Rainfall erosivity was estimated from rainfall amounts using the indices of Roose (1977) and Arnoldus (1977).The values range from 421 to 809 and 134 to 370 respectively. Erosivity was highest in the month of August.
