Cell Wall Thickness And Tracheid Diameter Variation In Pinus Caribeae (morlet) Grown In Southeastern Nigeria
This study was aimed at assessing cell wall thickness and tracheid diameter variation of Pinus caribaea (Morelet) among two different plantations in Abia State, Nigeria. The results obtained indicated that both cell wall thickness and tracheid diameter between both plantations did not follow a definite pattern and were not significantly different in all the parameters assessed (p < 0.05) but ranged between 1.2 and 1.4µm for the cell wall thickness and 54 and 64µm for tracheid diameter. The pulpwood in both plantations demonstrated a thin wall thickness and its suitability for pulp and paper production with increased tearing resistance.
