Prevalence And Monetary Impact Of Hydatidosis In Small Ruminants Slaughterd At Ngare Narok Slaughter House In Laikipia West Subcounty, Kenya
Cystic echinococcosis (CE) is a hydatid disease that is caused by Echinococcus granulosus cysts which act like tumors. They disrupt the function of the entire organ leading to its condemnation during meat inspection. This study endeavored to determine the prevalence and the associated monetary loss of hydatidosis in sheep and goats slaughtered at Ngare Narok slaughter house. A six year (2013-2017) retrospective study was carried out on data from archived meat inspection reports of sheep and goats; focusing on viscera organs (lungs and liver) condemned during inspection procedure.
