Effect Of Directly Observed Treatment Shortcourse (dots) On Some Hematological Parameters Of Male Patients With Pulmonary Tuberculosis Managed In A Health Facility In Bayelsa State,
Introduction: Recent reports indicate slight decrease in occurrence of death from Tuberculosis made possible through the use of the Directly Observed Treatment Short-course (DOTS) therapy. Anti-TB drugs therapy is not totally free from side effects. Objective: This study was aimed at determining the effects of first line and second line DOTS therapy on the hematological parameters of Pulmonary TB patients. Methods: Zeihl-Neelson technique, ESR by Westerngreen method and Abacus 380 Autoanalyzer were employed. Results: Significant P values were obtained only for RBC and ESR when the control values were compared with that of first line values (RBC; P=0.0090. ESR; P=0.0000).
