The increasing urbanisation not matching with housing delivery by urban local authorities has been a topical issue resulting in the increasing sprawling urban informal settlements. Establishing the impact of these illegal settlements on economic development of Chirundu and beyond was the main aim of this study. Survey design which allowed the use of questionnaires was used in data collection. Findings revealed that rural urban migration is the main cause of the increased population in Chirundu, with the majority of people coming mainly from Hurungwe and as far as Gwanda.
